Submission Guidelines

The Philosophy Journal of Aesthetics welcomes submissions of original research in aesthetic philosophy, art theory, and related disciplines. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of scholarly excellence while fostering intellectual diversity and innovation.

Types of Submissions

  • Research Articles: Original research papers (6,000-10,000 words)
  • Review Essays: Critical engagement with recent publications (3,000-5,000 words)
  • Book Reviews: Reviews of recent books in aesthetics (1,000-2,000 words)
  • Discussion Papers: Responses to previously published articles (2,000-4,000 words)
  • Special Issues: Proposals for themed collections (contact editor)

Manuscript Preparation

  • Manuscripts should be submitted in Microsoft Word format (.docx)
  • Use 12-point Times New Roman font, double-spaced throughout
  • Include page numbers and a word count
  • Follow Chicago Manual of Style (17th edition) for citations
  • Include an abstract (150-250 words) and 5-8 keywords
  • Provide a brief biographical note (100 words)

  1. Prepare your manuscript according to our guidelines
  2. Submit through our online submission system
  3. Include a cover letter explaining the significance of your work
  4. Ensure all identifying information is removed for blind review
  5. Await initial editorial decision (usually within 2-3 weeks)

Final decision based on reviewer recommendations and editorial assessment.

All submissions undergo rigorous double-blind peer review. We typically aim to provide initial decisions within 8-12 weeks of submission. Authors will receive detailed feedback regardless of the decision.

Review Timeline

  • Initial editorial review: 2-3 weeks
  • Peer review process: 6-8 weeks
  • Editorial decision: 8-12 weeks total
  • Revisions (if required): 4-6 weeks
  • Final decision on revisions: 2-4 weeks

Ethical Requirements

Authors must adhere to the highest ethical standards in their research and submission practices.

Originality and Plagiarism

  • Manuscripts must be original and not previously published
  • Simultaneous submissions to other journals are not permitted
  • All sources must be properly cited and acknowledged
  • Self-plagiarism should be avoided

Authorship

  • All listed authors must have made substantial contributions
  • Authors must approve the final version
  • Changes to authorship after submission require explanation

Conflicts of Interest

  • Authors must declare any potential conflicts of interest
  • Funding sources should be acknowledged
  • Institutional affiliations must be current and accurate
